Calling From the Deep - Saturday 19th October 12-2pm

Following Kate’s week long residency at The Lookout she reveals her brand new work.

There is a folklore that from towns lost to the sea, church bells can still be heard. Researching these ‘drowned towns’, including Dunwich in Suffolk, I uncovered evocative tales both mystic and sinister. My residency at Aldeburgh Beach Lookout in October will culminate in a multi media installation blending large scale charcoal drawings, sound work and found objects. The work is designed and will be made specifically for this intriguing space looking out to sea.

Member Profile Mary Allen

Mary Allen lived in Aldeburgh, left, and has now returned.  She worked in the arts all her life, as an actor, a business sponsor, and chief executive of Watermans Arts Centre, Arts Council England and the Royal Opera House (now called Royal Ballet and Opera). These days she collects art, and spends most days loafing around and writing poetry.

MUD: The Upper Alde Estuary

An exhibition celebrating the 60th anniversary of the first performance of Britten’s Curlew river. Multi media artist Susan Brinkhurst and photographer Eamonn MCCabe began their collaboration before his untimely death in 2022. These photographs have not been shown in public before. The exhibition, across three venues at the Snape Maltings, continues until 20 October. I shall be on site in the Winch Gallery on 6th October at 11am to talk about the work and to take visitors around. Join me if you would like to see the exhibition pieces and get the stories behind the work.
